Pulling flags
Flags are the tackle.
Pulling a flag is the tackle. The play stops where the flag comes off.
- Eyes on the belt, not the feet.
- Break down two steps before the runner: short steps, knees bent, hands ready.
- Pull the flag, hold it up high, shout Flag!
- Ball carriers cannot block their flags with hands or arms. That is flag guarding, a penalty.
The practice plan starts with flag tag for this reason.
